“I’m not quite sure what freedom is, but I know damn well what it ain’t.” Assata Shakur
I am a nonprofit leader, social change strategist, and coach.
With nearly 20 years in the nonprofit sector, I have spent much of my career deeply committed to equity and justice work that creates sustainable change for Black people. As I advanced professionally, I found fewer and fewer women of color in leadership positions. This pained me and gave me purpose.
My personal mission to ensure that Black women have strong personal and professional development opportunities throughout their careers. As a result, you can find me talking about justice in presentations, on social media, and in my writing.
Whether you are a nonprofit professional or a corporate leader volunteering with your favorite charity, I am here to support you.
On this blog, you will find posts about productivity hacks that can help you manage work and life or suggestions on how to amplify your leadership in your current career. You will also find posts reminding you that no matter how much good you do in the world if you neglect YOU you’re on the wrong path.
With a busy schedule, for many years I struggled to manage work, home, and herself. My drive to fulfill her life’s mission of helping create social change was an energizer that went unchecked was often out of balance. I cycled between making a difference and frequent bouts with burnout. I pushed herself hard until a series of family crises brought life to a halt. Forced to stop working in the ways I had been accustomed, I assumed ‘the work’ would stop without her. Girl was I wrong!
With self-compassion, I began to more mindfully show up for myself and others.
Today, I continue to use her experiences to support women on their path to liberation. I also have a contemplative self-care practice that allows me to be more fully present for myself and others. My current motto is “to thine own mind-body-sisters-and-spirit be true!”
When I’m not working, you’ll find me introverting with my planner, doing yarn-work, writing or reading.
